It has been some time since I posted on here. The New Year has come and has the same promise as any other. If we practice compassion it will give our lives more ease. If we practice meditation we will learn patience. If we practice generosity we will benefit two fold. The wonderful feeling of giving and the happiness from knowing someone has received our gift.
Deciding to practice, being mindful, whether formal sitting meditation or simply staying awake, benefits all. Being awake raises our awareness. Raised awareness helps us to be responsive. It keeps us from saying things or acting in ways that may be harmful or unwise.
On Saturday I attended a funeral and on Sunday I was lost and frustrated and downright crabby. I had not taken the time and care to turn toward these feelings and identify the root of my mood. If I had been more skillfull I might have realized that I was grieving and that I needed to sit quietly to allow the feelings of sadness to arise and be expressed.
There is always more to learn. Practice is always the wise action.
